Mythologies to Explore Rest, Sleep and Dreams with Dr. Chanti Tacoronte-Perez

Mythologies to Explore Rest, Sleep and Dreams

To welcome the fall season, we will explore the thresholds and mythologies surrounding rest, sleep, and dreams. Mythologist Joseph Campbell explains that a myth is the reenactment of a ritual. Throughout this exploration, we will engage our imagination to understand rest as a spectrum. Participants will take part in intuitive movement, yoga nidra, simple drawing excursions, sip on tea, and practice nighttime self-care techniques. Finally, we will approach the dream gates, where we will learn to incubate dreams and engage in creative dream journaling.

Some mythologies or mythological figures might be considered symbols of rest, sleep, and dreams, including The Forest, The Threshold, La Siesta, Hypnos, the Goddess Yoga Nidra, Briar Rose, and Baba Yaga.

I invite you to embrace the tranquility of the slower-paced season and become curious about these thresholds. By reimagining sleep as a sacred practice, we can transform our nightly rest into something profoundly meaningful. Let us remember that our dreams hold divine messages waiting for us to explore. This workshop is not about getting sleeping or dreaming “right”; rather, it's about exploring our relationship with the mystery of these thresholds.
